End Female Genital Mutilation Now!

Why the continuous call for an end to female genital mutilation? The immediate pain and lifelong trauma makes the call for an end to this practice important and urgent.

Meg was 10 when she was mutilated. Apart from the pain which she says was excruciating and lasted for years, she was also infected from the unsterilized instrument leading to frequent hospital visits for most part of her teenage years. She is now in her early 30's and married but says that her marriage is on the verge of collapse as a result of her inability to enjoy her intimate moments with her husband. She is not only affected physically but mentally and has been self-harming silently till she was convinced to go for therapy. We can only hope that therapy helps her overcome the trauma of been mutilated at such an early age.

Meg's story and many others like her should spur everyone to action especially those in leadership. This is not the time to stay silent or accept this as normal, let's all join the global community in calling for an immediate end to female genital mutilation.
